We got up this morning and went for a walk instead of running. There are not many joggers/runners in San Pedro. The streets are not really made for running.

After run and breakfast, we finally got to snorkeling as the weather had improved. Being low season in Belize, we were the only people on the snorkeling tour. We went out to Mexican Rocks for the first stop which is in the marine reserve. There are many coral formation boulders and rocks that are home for lots of tropical fish and mammals. We saw a large green sea turtle and then a small one that was playing hide and seek in some sea grass. We, also, saw grouper, barracudas, Sargent majors, pirate fish, angel fish and a camouflage flounder. I really enjoyed the experience. The water is super clear and warm.

The second stop was shark-ray alley where nurse sharks and stingrays congregate. Mainly because the tour groups put chum in the water to feed them and attract them to the boats. It was interesting to see the stingrays in particular. I, previously, had done a shark dive so was not as interested in the sharks. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures as I do not have an underwater camera.

Clive our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Very island type of guy.

In the afternoon, we headed over to Caulker Caye, a nearby island that is less developed than San Pedro. There are no paved roads on the island. Also, after being there because it is less developed, it seems to be slightly more upscale and international than San Pedro. I am glad we are staying on San Pedro as there seems more to do here.

Dima had found a very local restaurant called Melody’s Kitchen. When we got there, he was not sure he wanted to eat there as it was literally a sort of ramshackle house.

I convinced him that it was safe to eat there and we would not get food poisoning from the meal. It turned out to be a fantastic meal which I knew it would be. I had the Creole Shrimp and Dima had whole grilled Caribbean lobster. My Creole Shrimp was fantastic. Our whole meal, with the tip I threw in was $50.00

You could tell it was local as two Caulker Caye policeman arrived to grab a takeout meal while we were there and they were on first name basis with the staff. Meldy came out as we were finishing lunch and we had a nice chat with her and the server. I said I wanted to learn how to cook the Creole Shrimp and the server told us Meldy was on TikTok and Google. We are definitely into the internet age. Meldy looked about 70 but who really knows age.

After lunch, we headed over Iquana Lagoon which is very popular on Caulker Key. They have stingrays that they feed on a regular basis and the rays just swim around the people in shallow water. Dima and I said it reminded us of feeding time at the zoo but you do get to see the stingrays up close and personal

We took the ferry back at sunset and saw the first real sunset since we have been here since our hotel faces east towards the Caribbean and the barrier reef.

We skipped dinner since we had a huge and delicious lunch at Melody’s. It was a really fun day in paradise.
