Second day in San Diego

Liam was nice and went out and got us some breakfast pastries and coffee and tea. We enjoyed a relaxing morning at the Airbnb.

Tom and Jake came and picked us up and we drove up to Torrey Pines State Park for a hike. Torrey Pines is definitely a beautiful and popular hiking location. It is located on the bluffs above the Pacific Ocean. The hiking is not difficult as much of it is on paved roads but there are some steep areas of dirt tracks. It definitely is a great place for pictures. We hiked up to the scenic over look and then down to the beach for the walk back to the car.

There are some amazing rock formations some gullies that have been worn into the hills but water run off. It was great as the marine layer of fog and the clouds had cleared but the time we got to Torrey Pines os the views were fantastic.

After the hike, we drove up to Del Mar and had lunch and a fun restaurant called Salt + Lime. We were looking for a restaurant to watch the USA vs. Australia World Cup match. The restaurant had three TVs so we could watch. The amusing part was that the TVs were not synced so the sound and pictures did not always match. Where we were sitting the TV was about 20 seconds ahead of the other TVs so we say scores and other important issues before others in the restaurant/bar.

The US won the match and are moving on to the Round of 32. They even won their group. I was skeptical that the team would do well but am joining the band wagon that they might go further. I have not gotten on board with the thought they could win the whole tournament yet. The fact that they won without Christian Pusilic gives some hope.

We wandered around Del Mar which reminded all of us of Carmel in Northern California. The beach was very active which was good. The Pacific is very cold so I am always amazed that people actually go swimming in it. We agreed that as children we probably would have gone swimming but as adults we pass. In previous visits, I have only gone up to my knees and then decide it was too cold to go further.

Liam and I did a little run in the afternoon in the afternoon between the activities and dinner. There was a lot of napping but I read instead of napping.

For dinner, we went to North Park and had dinner at a Spanish Tapas restaurant, Finca. I was stupid and did not take pictures but the food, atmosphere and wine were all very good. The company was excellent. I really enjoy spending time with Liam, Sarah, Tom and Jake.

On the Uber ride home, we tortured the Uber driver, with stories of our misspent youth. It was stories of being drunk in our earlier years. I apologized to the driver for it as we got out.
