Lazy Day

I had a lazy day. It was overcast and somewhat dreary so I decided to take the day in and read. I read quite a bit being in Toulouse and when I in Alexandria but more so here. I do not watch TV at all when I am in Toulouse. Occasionally, I will watch Netflix but not often.

In the evening, I went to Reflets for dinner. It is a very nice more upscale restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food is creative and good. Xavier is very knowledgeable on wine. I kind understand a great deal of what he says about the wine when he is describing the bottles to the customers. I do not buy a bottle because I could not drink the whole thing but they have good wine by the glass.

I had the pea risotto for dinner. I have become a big fan of risotto over the last coupe of years and so am always willing to try a different type. The pea was very good. They had some tempura vegetables with it as well.

The dessert was chocolate fondant which was served in a chantilly type cream sauce. It was delicious. It was very rich but the cream sauce cut some of the richness. Xavier had recommended a dessert wine with it was local for the Perpignan region. It was a good complement to the dessert.

I decided to walk off dinner with a longer walk back to the apartment. As I was walking back, I heard chanting and drumming so decided to see what was going on. As I have stated before there is always something different going on here in Toulouse.

In the Port Daurade, there was a group of people dressed up in interesting costumes and sitting on the edge of the Garonne. There were two people with a megaphone that were rallying the crowd. I could not understand what they were saying as they were shouting, speaking fast, and the megaphone was making it somewhat unclear.

After a little while, they all got up and moved closer to the Garonne. Next thing I saw was a small makeshift boat with candles floating in the Garonne with the current which the group had launched. I am not sure the significance of the boat with candles.

They watched it float off and then somewhat dispersed.

I am never sure what I am going to see in Toulouse but it makes for interesting experiences.

It does not get dark here in Toulouse until much later than DC at this time of year. This was a little after 9:00 pm. The sun rises later and sets later at the moment.
