Thought it was catchy and sort of caught my mood. I woke up to a rainy, gloomy day and knew it was “life maintenance” day. I have always done house cleaning and laundry on Monday as most things are closed that day here in Toulouse.
This led to a completely worthless day. I did clean the apartment which is not really hard as the apartment is fairly small and easy to clean. There is only one run and the rest is tile floors or wood laminate. It is easy to vacuum and then do a quick mop of the floors. The kitchen is small as well so it is easy to clean. Same of the bathroom and toilet, as with most of France they are separate rooms.
I did the final load of laundry after Jesse and Jen’s visit. I had two sets of sheets to clean so i did the one needed to put on the bed for me to sleep in last Thursday after Jen and Jesse left and then did the one for the fold out bed today. I had a few clothes to do as well so I did those as well. I am now all caught up and am back on my regular schedule.
The rest of the day was spent reading. I have found a series of mysteries that I like and have been reading them for the last week or so. I am a quick reader so I go through books fairly quickly especially here in Toulouse when I spend a lot of time by myself. I like reading so it is good.
Now I am going to sound like a foodie and food blogger. I have been trying to eat things that I cannot get in the U.S. I had bought a Supreme of Pintade at the market on Sunday. That is a guinea fowl breast. I read somewhere after I had translated Pintade that guinea fowl was a pretty normal Sunday dinner staple in southwest France. I had not really known what a guinea fowl. It is a poultry that originated in Africa. According to research, it is moist, firmer and leaner than chicken and slightly gamey in flavor.
I looked up recipes for cooking the Supreme and it was very easy. I browned it in a little olive oil and butter on both sides and then baked it for about fourteen minutes. It turned out very good. I liked it and it is definitely moist when cooked. The recipe said cook vegetables with it so I boiled some potatoes in chicken growth and then baked them with the breast. The other sides were haricot verts (green beans) and salad.

The wine I had with it was Les Flingeuers de Fronton. This was a wine I found at the wine festival I went to over the weekend. One should not buy wine by the label but I succumbed to it this time. I found the label very clever. I learned that it was a play on a 1960 crime comedy French TV show called the Lest Tontons Flingeuers – the Gunslinger uncles.

The best part is the “J’ai connu une Toulousiane queen buvait au p’tit déj’ner”. This means I know a person who lives in Toulouse who drinks it for breakfast. I thought that was fun. Fronton is a wine region near Toulouse.
Now it is back to my regular schedule as it is back to living my Toulouse life without visitors.
