Slow Day

I decided I could have a slow day as I had did a lot of activities over the last couple of weeks.

I did my “faire les courses” – my weekly shopping trip to the St. Aubin’s market, the Marchè Victor Hugo, got my chocolate croissant from Maison Pillon and a baguette. I tried a new boulangerie which has opened by the St. Aubin’s market. The baguette is very good.

I decided to branch out a little and bought a Supreme de Pintade. This is a guinea hen breast. I had read that the guinea hen was a traditional weekend dinner poultry. It supposedly has a more intense flavor than chicken. We will see as I am going to cook it on Monday night for dinner.

Tonight’s dinner is sole. It is a very nice white fish. I cooked it a Sole Meunière. This is slightly floured and cooked in clarified butter. I had to clarify the butter to cook the sole but that was pretty easy. You just boil (simmer) the butter to separate the milk fat from the butter. It turned out very good. I was upset that I did not have my fish forks and knives as the sole was the whole sole so I had to filet it after I cooked it. I had green beans and salad with it. The dinner was very good.

One of the issues is staying long term in an Airbnb is that you do not have all the kitchen utensils and pans that you need to really cook. I had bought a few things that make it easier to cook my dinners. It is really not bad but sometimes I want to cook things and have to figure out how to do it without all the things I have at home. Granted I have too many kitchen pans, gadgets, silverware, glasses and china in Alexandria.

The only thing I did was walk by an antique market that was set up on the Rue d’Alsace Lorraine. There were fun things but as mentioned in the above paragraph, I have too much already so should not add anything else to my home collections.

The rest of the day, I stayed home and read which was nice.
