Last day of the friends visit

It was the last day of Jesse and Jen’s visit. We started out lazily as I think we were all slightly tired after all the activities we had one over the week. We had done a great deal of walking, some running, eating and drinking. It was a great visit.

The one tourist activity that we did was visiting the Musèe Les Abbitoirs. Les Abbitoirs is the contemporary art museum of Toulouse. I had never visited it before so it was nice to see it. The building was the old slaughterhouse for the city. It was converted into a contemporary art museum and is a great space for it. It does to have a large collection. The most famous piece is a theater curtain conceived by Pablo Picasso and done with another artist. The space they created for it is great.

We had lunch at a bistro in St. Cyprien that I had walked by multiple times and thought looked fun. It is set-up and the food is based on an American saloon. Lots of tin signs on the walls. Burgers are a big thing on the menu. They do have the French formule and it is a great deal. I had a Salade Niciose as a starter, a small steak with salad and French fries and crème caramel with a 1/4 carafe for wine for 17 euros.

Jen did some shopping while Jesse and I had a beer and glass of wine on the Place de Capitole. When Jen finished we walked over to the corner bar that I like. Jesse said that they had the best beer in Toulouse. We stopped on the way so Jen could get a coffee at La Cerise – another coffee roaster. Jen loved the coffee and bought some beans to take home with her.

Last item on the day was dinner with Elliot, my French running friend at Reflets. A great dinner with good conversation. It was a great way to end the week. I had mussels in a great sauce (first picture). The second picture was beef cheeks on butternut squash purée with beef, wine reduction sauce. The third picture is open ravioli with mushrooms and a great cream sauce. The second two pictures were main courses. No dessert as I think we were all stuffed.

It was fun to have Jesse and Jen here. Tomorrow is back to normal Toulouse life.
