Beautiful Day

The weather was perfect today. It was sunny and in the seventies.

I felt very French this morning as I had breakfast and then walked down to the corner Boulangerie and bought my baguette for lunch. It is so nice to be able to find a bakery so close and be able to buy fresh baked bread so easily and cheaply.

After lunch I went for my daily walk. I walked along the river front and the river was still and running so smoothly. I saw crew teams practicing on the river and I am sure they loved the calmness of the river on the day. You could see the mountains in the background which is always an amazing sight and one that you do not get to see every day.

I visited the cathedral again. I had not been there on this trip and it is a beautiful but odd church. It must have been built it two parts and the aisle is not straight. The choir and alter are on one side and the nave is on the other. The church is not perpendicular. I need to do some research on why it is that way.

During my wanderings, I passed one of the servers at a restaurant that I visit fairly regularly. He was walking with a young lady. He did a double take and then said hello. It is nice to run across people that I am familiar with while out wandering. I walked by the restaurant on my way home from dinner and he said hello again as he was outside eating his dinner.

I enjoyed a small beer at Grave in the late afternoon sun and warmth. I sat and read as I was enjoying the beer and the afternoon.

In the evening, I went as usual to Le Panache and had a great time. The meal was fantastic. I had one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. I thought the pavlova was good but this was even better. It was whipped goat cheese with pomegranate seeds, scallions some other seeds and purée of apple as a base. The different flavors and textures complimented each other so well. It was also beautifully presented.

I am alway impressed with Diego’s(the chef) creativity. All the dishes are good but this one was really over the top.

While out walking I looked for the markings for the Camino de Santiago and did find them. They are subtle but if you know what you are looking for you can find them and follow them. They are the blue and yellow with the shell.
