The post will not be long today as I had a relaxed day. The main reason for the relaxed day was the wind. This is the second time since I have been back in Toulouse where there was strong and sustained winds. I was interested on why there were these day long windy events – this one is actually supposed to last 3 days.

I did some internet research and found that this is caused the vent d’autan. Not being a meteorlogist geek or guru, it was interesting to read but not sure I completely understand the cause. From my reading, winds blow off the Mediterranean Sea and then are funneled through an area between the Pyrenees and another set of hills/mountains to the east of Toulouse. The funneling of the winds make them stronger and last longer. The wind was blowing at around a steady 25 mph and had gust around 45 mph. The 25 mph winds are continuous, it is just gusts but just continuous. It was eerie in the night just to hear the winds blowing through the courtyard outside my apartment all night.

Even with the wind, it was sunny and the day was pretty. I did my usual walk around the city as I was running an errand. The only real difference is that there are not as many people sitting out at cafes. It does not stop the cafe society, it is just less busy. The runners were still out braving the wind. I will be doing the same thing tomorrow night when I run with the group. I am hoping the sustained winds will have mitigated some.

I am still getting adjusted to the induction cooking. For some reason, I have trouble getting the temperature and the way to cook on the induction range to work exactly as I would like to in cooking. I am getting better but I still struggle at times. I am sure I will figure it all out. I am still able to make dinner and enjoy my meals. I have been stocking th kitchen with some things I need to make the cooking and storing food easier. The kitchen had a enough for basic cooking but I want to do some more extensive cooking so I needed to get a few things. That was the errand I ran yesterday out in the wind.
