I took a little field trip to Narbonne. It is a town down by the Méditerranée but not right on the sea. It is about 1.5 hours by train from Toulouse. Using the trains in France is super easy. They have plenty of service and it is very comfortable.
One of the funny things about the trip is I took the local service which takes a little longer but is great value and service. When I was coming back, the more expensive train was being held up at the Narbonne station and it did not leave until about 5 minutes before my train. The expensive train was a hour late leaving so I made it back to Toulouse about the same time as the expensive train.
Narbonne cathedral is very spectacular but definitely interesting as they only finished the choir area of the cathedral and never completed the nave. It is about half the size of a normal medieval cathedral. The height and soaring ceilings are the same, it is just truncated.

There are a number smaller chapels surrounding the choir which makes it even more impressive. The middle picture is one of the chapels. The whole complex is immense as there is also the Archbishop’s palace attached to the complex. It is very fortress like.

There was a street antique market going on along the canal in the city. It is good that I do it actually live here or I would have bought numerous items. Also, good that I can ship them home as again I would buy things and I definitely do not need more stuff for my house. The temptation is great but I so far have been good at resisting.

They have an old central market which both architecturally and what is on sale is impressive. It is the old iron and glass type of structure.

Had a nice lunch of oysters and then moules frite. Enjoyed a nice quarter carafe of wine with the lunch. The views were over the canal and walk along it so the people watching was great.

All in all, it was a fun field trip!
