My day starting out with me going over to the Victor Hugo market for some supplies. I ran over there (two blocks away) first thing before I had even showered as I wanted a baguette from the boulangerie that makes a great baguette and a pain au chocolat for breakfast. I had to go early as I have found that they sell out early and if I wait until mid-morning or later, they do not have either. I guess I am getting to be French in that I need my baguette regularly!
I spent most of the day reading and just enjoying life. I was a little tired from election night and day. I had not slept well Election Night as I was asleep before the results started coming in and was anxious (as I think most people were) about what the results were going to be. Also, what the reaction would be based on the results. I got up early on Wednesday morning (French time) and was able to see the results coming in as it was about 3:00 am US time. As most people, I was surprised by the results.
I had a major accomplishment in the evening on the run. I actually met someone and chatted with them during the whole run and afterwards. No, I did not converse in French that entire time. The person I met teaches French as a second language online and was completely fluent in English. We did start the conversation in French but switched to English after the first few minutes. It was nice to have someone to talk to on the run. I am also interested in talking to him about French lessons and maybe taking some classes from him to improve my language skills. We exchanged contact information and I am going to reach out to him. He does not live directly in Toulouse but in a town outside the city. It is good for him but interesting as he lives in a city with a lot of English/American ex-pats. He said there is even an English-speaking theater group in Toulouse. He had been to DC for a visit so we discussed that and he was familiar with DC. He had also gone to school in Missoula, MT. It was a fun run and I feel good that I have actually met someone on my own. He is a regular at the runs so I should see him next week.
I, also, figured out what was going on this weekend in Toulouse and it is the Toulouse Marathon. I will go out and watch the runners on Sunday. They course is around the city and I should be able to view it from various places.
