Always a surprise in Toulouse

I went to the St. Aubin flea/market’s market as I usually do on Sunday morning and was confused as I started to see stands and other activity when I was several blocks from the actual flea/farmer’s market. Not sure why but they were having a street festival and a fun fair/carnival at St. Aubin’s this weekend. There were carnival rides and games set up where the usual food and other stands were. I was worried that I would be able to find the usual vendors where I buy things but after wandering around, I was able to find them. I bought my usual cheese, olives and fruits and vegetables.

There were bands and other entertainment. It is alway fun to finds these types of activities unexpectedly when wandering around. It seems to be a weekly occasion in Toulouse.

I did the usual of going to the English mass at St. Sernin this morning. It was better attended than usual and was quite nice. I still cannot get used to the tourists just wandering around while the service is going on. I guess that is what happens when the church is a museum as well as a working church.

I did a really nice run along the Canal di Midi in the afternoon. I seem to have found my enjoyment of running again, which I had lost over the last couple of years. I did a nice 8 mile run and was surprisingly quick for me. The run along the canal is quite beautiful. When I first meet up with the path, it is in the city and a major road runs along it so it is not as great but the farther I run it moves to suburbs and less populated areas and becomes beautiful. There a lots of tall plane trees that flank the canal so it is very scenic.

I am still amazed at the lack of situational awareness that the French possess. I was running and a woman passed me and another runner on a bicycle going the opposite direction that we were running. She then turned back and rode in front of us. She just suddenly stopped in the middle of the path. I think she turned back as her child was behind her. Both myself and the other runner had to quickly move to the side to not run into her. I almost ended up running into her as there were other bicyclists and walkers that I had to avoid. She did not even seem aware that she had caused a pile up. I am getting better at my own situational awareness so I do not run into people. This one just surprised me as it was sudden and right in the middle of lots of activity.

This is not a very good picture of it but there is a cable car outside Toulouse. I am not sure what its purpose is but I am going to head out to it one day and go for a ride as I am sure the views are beautiful from it. The turnaround for my run was neat the cable car.
