Battery Recharge Day

I had a very busy week which was great but needed a day to recharge so it was a lazy day of reading and just relaxing.

For dinner, I had arranged to meet one of the women who was on the Wine Bar tour. Kristi is in Toulouse studying French for six week.

We learned a lesson as you definitely need to have reservations on Saturday night in Toulouse. We tried a couple of reservations but were not able to get a table at two restaurants but finally found one that had a table.

The restaurant was La Verrière. It was a fairly high end restaurant that had a set menu where your only choice is the type of main you are served – either meat or fish. They did have a vegetarian option as Kristi is vegetarian.

The meal was very good. The whole atmosphere was very “cool”. The colors and decor is very modern, light woods and neutral colors. The china and various plates were very creative. The meal was creative and delicious. I am terrible at remembering to take pictures of the food for this blog, especially if I am with someone else but here are pictures of the starter and the desert.

It was a nice evening and it was fun to actually eat dinner with someone which is a change from most of my dinners. We are meeting again for dinner on Wednesday. We both agreed that the concept of eating alone is not something that you find often in France so sometimes it is a little awkward – most restaurants are small and do not have bars to sit at while eating so you are at a table for two surround by parties of family and friends.

We were also amused as at the table next to us, there were four young people and one had a small dog who joined them for dinner at the table and sat in the owner’s lap. This restaurant is a fairly upscale an it is not something you would see in the US or Canada (where Kristi is from). It is fairly common here in Toulouse.
