Arrived in Verona and figured out how to take the Airport City Connection from the airport to Verona Porto Nuova train station. From there I figured out how to use the City buses to.get to the Piazza Bra and then walked through the old city to my hotel, the Due Torri.

The Due. Torri is an old hotel in a 14th Century Palazzo. It is very old school and elegant. The chandelier is made of Venetian Murano glass, hard wood patterned floors and marble bath with rain water shower. The furniture is antique and all very Italian.

The view from my room is the Basilica of Santa Anastasia which is a lovely gothic church (1280-1400) and is the largest church in Verona.

After an unpacking and a quick shower, I headed out to accomplish one of the most important objectives of the trip – eat a bombolini. I remember eating bombolini when I was a child living here in Verona. It is one of those memories that comes back to me often and brings gladness to my memories and life. I had been hoping that they were still sold in the Piazza Erbe and they would be as good as remembered them from childhood. I had a slight moment of panic when I first got to the Piazza Erbe and the bombolini stand was not where I thought it was going to be – errant memories of childhood. I decided to stroll through the piazza in hopes that the stand selling them were still there. To my excitement and pleasure, the stand was just further down the piazza. I immediately requested a bombolini the seller got the dough out, rolled it out thin with a beer bottle, then deep fried and rolled it in granulated sugar! It was 4 Euros but worth every euro. It brought back a flood of good memories and spending time in Verona with my mother and father. It tasted as good as I remembered. So I have accomplished a major goal of the trip. 

The rest of the afternoon, I just wandered around the old city, strolled along the Adige river, sat in a cafe and enjoyed being here and relaxing.
